On the evening of November 3, 2023, Myron Love was honoured with an Advocate Award and induction into the Manitoba Motor Dealers Association Hall of Fame for his 25-plus years of covering the industry in his weekly column for the Winnipeg Free Press Auto Section. He wants to express his deep appreciation for the opportunity to have been part of this industry which plays an essential role in the lives of most Canadians.
“I have naturally many wonderful memories from my time spent reporting the comings and goings in the industry – the annual social evenings and awards breakfasts and conventions before them, dealership grand openings and new car launches, employee appreciation lunches and many more – but I especially remember all the warm and welcoming people I came to know – many of them who became friends,” said Myron.
He said that among those who stand out have been Larry Vickar (the Vickar Auto Group), Steve Chipman (the Birchwood Group), Dan and Doug Murray (The Murray Auto Group), Marietta Rewucki (former president of Eastern Chrysler, Gerald Boiteau (formerly general manager and vice president Autohaus Volkswagen/Porsche), Ashok Dilawri (Dilawri Auto Group) and Brian Lowes (Mercedes-Benz Winnipeg).
“What I have found most admirable about the auto dealers I have known is that, despite their accumulated wealth, they remain down-to-earth and are strong advocates of giving back to their communities, a philosophy they have demonstrated through donations, sponsorships and personally giving of their time,” he concluded.
