September 22 @ September 22 - September 22

Free

Forest Encounters: The Seen and Unseen Worlds of Slavic Living Nature. September 22, 2024 1:00pm – 2:30pm Birds Hill Provincial Park The indigenous cultures of Eastern Europe are so powerfully bonded to living nature the earliest farming settlers claimed Slavic spirits had followed them to the new world. Join the Last Rural Forester on his walk through the forest for encounters with the ‘seen’ and ‘unseen’ worlds of Slavic living nature. Living nature is a constant drama of interdependent relationships within the forest. Discover ancient Slavic wisdom of traditional foresters from Eastern Europe, passed through generations of family lineage. The Slavic wisdom of the forest was taught through oral tradition, and archives hold few written records. Be the first to hear the oral storytelling of the Last Rural Forester with family origins to a 9th century forest village, now lost through war. A glimpse of that ancient world may shift your perception of the forest forever. A film crew may record some scenes of the presentation.
