You will also find information about the 21 RTAM Chapters, 18 located throughout the province of Manitoba and three others, two in British Columbia and one in Alberta. Membership in RTAM includes public school and private school retired teachers who qualify.
An example of a long standing Chapter is RWTA, (The Retired Women Teachers Association) who will be celebrating their 70th Anniversary in 2021. They meet for lunch four times a year with entertainment following such as a fashion show to begin each season in September, musical groups and individuals with interesting and entertaining subject matter. The emphasis is on the social engagement that is evident amongst the members before and during lunch. A group of these members visit any shut-ins in the membership. This involved and caring group of women collect and provide a supply of used glasses to third world countries and toiletries to women’s shelters as well as socks and mitts to the homeless with the belief that small acts of kindness from many individuals add up to much needed relief and necessities for those in need. Many of the other chapters throughout the province are not as large in numbers but, although often unique in action, are providing social engagement for their members and needed services to their communities. They are, after all retired teachers who have been caring for and providing extra support for their students during their careers.
The RTAM Annual General Meeting is planned for May 5 and 6 in Winnipeg this year. If, because of the health challenge that has hit our world it needs to be postponed until late summer, please stay in touch with the website, www.rtam.mb.ca for updated information. We in RTAM wish everyone a safe journey through this dangerous health episode we are experiencing. Stay safe, stay well, stay connected in whatever way you can with family and friends. God bless!
