Culture Days is back; and Manitoba’s prolific skills and talents are again on display.
A formidable list of vibrant and distinctive events are in store for Manitoba, and its visitors, Sept. 30 to Oct. 2, when the provinces and the country at large together celebrate the seventh annual Culture Days.
As Canada’s largest cultural fest, Culture Days encourages artists, performers and community organizations alike to participate in a weekend of free and interactive activities that promote and showcase our country’s cultural diversity.
Here in Manitoba, over 40,000 people attended over 350 Culture Days Manitoba events last year, and Winnipeg once again led the country with its record setting number.
For the upcoming celebrations, performance and exhibition organizations in the public domain – including the Royal Winnipeg Ballet, The Forks and the Canadian Museum for Human Rights – have all planned free events. Artisanal and artist markets in Winnipeg will also be highlights of the Culture Days Manitoba weekend.
Another focal point in Manitoba will be the independent artists who open their doors to the public as an invitation to come and experience the artistic process. Local dance studios like Chai Folk Ensemble and Au Set Bellydance will offer sneak previews of their regular performance season, jewellers like Redd Line will host workshops, and the beloved chocolatier, Constance Popp, will provide guests with chocolate-making demos and sweet treats to eat. These are just a few of the artists and arts groups sure to make this year’s festivities a success.
And for night owls, Nuit Blanche Winnipeg, the all-night celebration of contemporary art on the Saturday, will once again be presenting new and intriguing submissions to illuminate the Exchange District, St. Boniface and Winnipeg’s downtown.
The best aspect of this vast celebration is that anyone and everyone can participate, and all events are free to the public.
